Hair styles come and go, fashion changes but one thing is an almost constant:
Healthy, long, gorgeous hair is… Well it’s gorgeous!
Unfortunately, the time spent to cultivate youthful, flowing locks can feel like an eternity for most women. The eternal question is:
How can I grow my hair faster and stronger?
For the most part, the rate at which your hair grows is mainly set in your genes, roughly half an inch per month. Yet there are ways you can boost your hair growth and ensure the strength and youthfulness of it too!
Even after a few months, your hair could be on the road a stronger, longer and healthier looking future! Just follow these tips!
Hair is composed of a protein called Keratin and your body creates it by converting the protein from your diet into it. A diet rich in: Eggs, Milk, Cheese and meats such as Chicken and Beef will have a sharp effect on the rate of hair growth and the overall health too.
Try not to go overboard though, some of these foods are also high in saturated fats, salt and cholesterol. Balance your diet with plenty of vegetables and grains for maximum health benefit!
- Brush Your Hair
Brush your hair once every day, this stimulates the circulation within your scalp – giving your hair all the nutrients and oxygen it needs to grow healthy and strong! Don’t brush too vigorously though, a gentle brush will work wonders and don’t do it whilst your hair is wet either. Your hair is at its most vulnerable when damp after a hot shower!
For those of you with curly hair that could resemble an afro post-brush, simply massage your scalp during a shower or get your partner to massage with essential oils like Castor or Lavender.
- Shampoo & Condition Your Hair
Always use a quality brand of shampoo and conditioner for your hair. Not only does good conditioner “feed” the scalp / hair – it will help protect your growing hair from the elements.
Whilst you’re busy shampooing your hair, don’t forget to give your scalp a massage too. Just like brushing your hair, massaging the scape will promote blood flow and help deliver all the building blocks your hair needs to thrive!
Don’t overuse your shampoo / conditioner though. If at all possible give your hair a break every few days from the rigor of constant washing. This will help your hair remain strong and healthy.
- Keep Conditioner Away From The Root Base
The skin on your scalp is very sensitive and whilst most brands of shampoo have been designed to avoid being harsh on the scalp, conditioners don’t have that luxury.
Some conditioners will contain waxes, oils and other chemicals that can clog skin pores and lead to dermatitis. Avoid this by keeping conditioner away from your scalp and rinsing thoroughly during every shower.
- Try Oil Scalp Massages
Not only is this tip romantic, it can work miracles on dry, lifeless hair!
- Heat up a small amount of Linen, Coconut or Jojoba Oil. (Warning: Be careful with Heat)
- Run it into your fingers.
- Massage the scalp for 10 – 20 minutes, paying attention to the root ends.
This massage should leave you with glossy, youthful looking hair with extreme shine. You’ll also feel much more relaxed if your significant other is doing the massaging for you!
- Stay Stress Free
Stress is one of the key factors in early hair loss so it makes sense to try and remain calm if you want to promote healthy hair growth. Scientists have found that 70% of hair follicles can enter a “Telogen Phase” during periods of extreme stress, causing hair loss.
Stay stress free, ensure good sleep and you’ll give you hair the fighting chance it deserves!
- Use An Egg Mask
Eggs are packed with protein, iron, sulphur and zinc – all powerful promoters of healthy hair growth! An Egg Mask can be used once per month to give your hair a quick boost and ensure it has all the nutrients it needs.
- Whisk one egg and mix some grapeseed oil / lavender oil.
- Apply to your hair and leave for 340 minutes.
- Wash and condition your hair as normal.
Don’t use this mask more than once per month though. As with all measures in this guide, moderation is the key!
- Take Vitamins & Minerals
A supplement containing: folic acid, biotin, fish oils and evening primrose oil will help your hair to grow strong and healthy, whilst vitamins like B7 and B9 will help your hair grow faster.
Be sure to talk with your doctor before taking any additional supplements.
- Have A Medical Check-Up
Some medical conditions will hinder your efforts to grow healthy hair quickly:
- Hormonal Imbalances
- Thyroid Disorder
- Chronic illness
You might also find that certain medications can cause problems with healthy hair growth:
- Birth control
If you’re worried about any of these issues then a trip to your doctor should provide some answers and steps you can take to have healthy hair and take the important medication you need.
Seborrheic dermatitis and other types of scalp infections can also cause problems with hair growth. If you’re suffering then it’s always best to seek the help of a physician and treat the underlying condition before attempting new hair growth.
- Myth Busting
There are many myths around promoting strong hair growth:
- Don’t use shampoo / conditions too much (The more you use, the more damage is Does)
- Cutting your hair (Doesn’t improve hair growth speed at All)
- Placing your hair upside down (Gravity won’t help your hair Grow)
A simple regime of healthy eating, massage and keeping your hair clean / conditioned should produce results in a few months. Couple that with extra vitamins / supplements and your hair should grow back strong and full of life – ready for that next fashion trend!
